ST. MARTHA LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER
The St. Martha Library Media Center has many new and exciting books as well as the “tried and true” favorites. The fiction collection has mystery books, historical fiction and books of fantasy, adventure, and animal and holiday fiction. There are easy fiction books, chapter books for primary students and titles for intermediate and junior high students. There are also Reading Counts and Book Bee books. Non-fiction books cover a wide expanse of subject areas from books of world records, behavior and manners, books about saints and the Bible, holiday celebrations around the world, animals, computers, cooking, arts, crafts and music, poetry, history, and even how to speak Spanish. There is a section of biography books and a reference collection for research projects and locating information. Computers in the library media center can be used for Internet research, for locating books using the on-line card catalogue, to complete individual projects or to take a Reading Counts test. Class visits to the library media center include the opportunity to check out books after which students learn skills in literature, research and library skills to locate information as outlined in the Archdiocese of Louisville Library Media Skills Curriculum. These skills are introduced and taught in a graduated manner, starting with very simple skills and stories for 4-year-olds to more complex skills and genres of literature for the older students. Students enjoy the books and activities, the varied themes and subjects and the holiday celebrations through stories and activities when they visit the St. Martha Library Media Center.
