  1. You will need to download the installation package. Click HERE to do so.
If prompted to choose, SAVE the file. To make it easier to find, save to the Desktop.
  2. Find the file FasType60 on your Desktop. DOUBLE CLICK it, and wait for the installation program to initialize.
  3. Follow the prompts to install the program. Buttons you may be clicking will read RUN, NEXT, "I accept the license agreement", and FINISH.
  4. After installation, you will NOT need to double click the FasType60 file again. In fact, it is safe to drag this file to the Recycle Bin.

MAC USERS:

FasType is compatible with Mac after installing a program called WineBottler. We are not affiliated with this program, nor can we support it.

  1. To begin using FasType, click on START, go to ALL PROGRAMS, look for the "FasType Typing Tutorial 6" folder, and click on WinFt60.exe, OR:
Find the shortcut on the Desktop for "FasType V6 Typing Tutorial", and DOUBLE CLICK it.
  2. The program will ask for a registration file. The author of FasType has graciously allowed all students at St. Martha to download and use the registration file for free.
IMPORTANT: To download, you must RIGHT-CLICK HERE, then choose to SAVE TARGET AS (or SAVE LINK AS). Keep note of where it is saved, so that when FasType asks for it, you can point it to the correct folder.
  3. Set the program up for the appropriate lesson. To do so, go to the SELECT menu, and click "Choose Drill/Exercises". Click on the appropriate letters, numbers, etc to add them to the lesson. Click OK when finished.

NOTE: If you are on the CAPITALS sheet, make sure to add ALL of the lowercase letters first. If you are on NUMBERS, make sure to add ALL lowercase and uppercase letters. If you are on SYMBOLS, check the checkbox that says "Add special characters." If you are on LETTER PATTERNS, check the checkbox that reads "Type letter patterns."

  1. If a student is having trouble completing the assigned lessons, and there are only 2-3 weeks remaining in the quarter, they may choose to do their FasType lessons at home for a grade. To prove the scores are valid, the Typing History may need to be printed and brought to school if the computer teacher requests to see it (see below). Parents/Guardians MUST also sign in "Teacher' Initials" box on the FasType sheet, after viewing the score for that lesson. If a student is simply using FasType at home for practice, the history need not be printed.
  1. Go to the VIEW menu, and click SHOW HISTORY.
  2. In the new window that pops up, click on the FILE menu, and choose PRINT.
  3. Choose the appropriate amount of entries. Click the PRINT button. Choose the desired printer and click OK.
  1. Go to the VIEW menu, and click SHOW HISTORY.
  2. In the new window that pops up, click on the FILE menu, and choose EXPORT.
  3. Choose an appropriate place to save the file (top of the window, "SAVE IN"), and type in a file name, such as "history.txt" (the "SAVE AS TYPE" drop down seems not to affect anything, but you should probably select "Space Delimited DOS Text"). Click SAVE.
  4. Copy/Move this file to your flash drive, and show the file to the teacher for credit.

NOTE: Printing/Exporting the history may be requested for grade validation.

  1. If necessary, print out the Planets sheets for home use.
  2. While your parent or guardian watches, type one of the planet lessons, and record your score on your FasType sheet. Please make sure to have 20 errors or less.
  3. Parents MUST write a note stating: "My child has completed the planet lesson(s) _______.", and it must be signed and returned to their computer teacher. Once the score and note has been read, it will be stamped for credit.
  4. Lost Planet FasType sheets can NOT be replaced; It is the student's responsibility to keep track of their FasType sheet.
  5. The last planet may NOT be completed at home; It must be monitored by the teacher for their final grade.
